East German Stasi officer Gerd Wiesler is on his way up the career ladder. Creative as he is, he suggests to his boss that they should surveil the pro-regime playwright Georg Dreyman. Wielser suspects that he’s hiding something. Franz Biberkopf is released from the Tegel Prison in Berlin after serving a four-year sentence after killing his girlfriend Ida after an argument. The movie follows him, as he tries to find his way in life in the circle of petty villains, prostitutes and other wind-driven existences in 1920s poor Berlin. Fassbinder’s “Berlin Alexanderplatz” is the world’s longest feature film, with its over 15 hours.
